Ms Siobahn Singh graduates at UKZN.
Ms Siobahn Singh graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry degree after scooping awards for Best Contact Lens Clinician and Best Paediatric Vision Clinician.

The 23-year-old, who matriculated from Tongaat Secondary School, said she had always had a good work ethic. ‘It varies for different people but I found consistency to be my strong point. When you do anything, I believe in giving your best in any circumstance.

‘It feels wonderful to graduate with a degree in Optometry. It is a great achievement, acknowledging all the effort and determination. It’s definitely something to celebrate with my family and friends.’

Singh said it had felt ‘fantastic’ to receive trophies for Best Contact Lens Clinician and Best Paediatric Vision Clinician at the Oath-Taking and Awards Ceremony for final-year students at the end of last year.

She was inspired by her own optometrist to pursue a degree in the profession. Singh had always wanted to work in a setting that would entail providing health care to her community and making a positive difference to people’s health and well-being. As a result, she received several subject awards for merit passes in modules throughout her degree at UKZN.

‘I am currently working at an optometric practice close to home and I intend furthering my studies,’ said Singh.

She thanked God and her family for always proving an amazing support structure.
